Action Solidarité Tiers Monde (ASTM)
Overview
Action Solidarité Tiers Monde (ASTM) is a Luxembourg-based non-governmental development organisation founded in 1969 by a group of student volunteers. For over five decades, ASTM has been committed to improving the living conditions of the most disadvantaged populations in the Global South. The organisation focuses on political, economic, social, and cultural empowerment, guided by the belief that significant obstacles to this emancipation are rooted in the centres of economic and political power, including Luxembourg itself. ASTM's approach is grounded in human rights and operates through three main pillars: supporting solidarity projects, raising awareness and providing education, and engaging in political analysis and advocacy. The organisation collaborates with over 30 partner organisations across Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East to implement projects aimed at improving the quality of life for impoverished communities. These initiatives focus on capacity building, enabling local populations to assert their rights and achieve greater autonomy.
