AFS Intercultural Programs

Overview

AFS Intercultural Programs is a global, non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to fostering intercultural understanding and developing active global citizens. Founded in 1914 as the American Field Service—a volunteer ambulance corps during World War I—AFS has evolved into a leading international exchange network. Today, it comprises over 50 independent, volunteer-based organizations operating in more than 80 countries. AFS offers a variety of programs, including high school exchanges, volunteer opportunities, and virtual learning experiences, all designed to equip participants with the skills and perspectives needed to navigate and contribute to a diverse world. These programs are supported by a vast network of over 50,000 volunteers worldwide, who play a crucial role in facilitating cultural exchanges and supporting participants throughout their journeys.
