Alsama
Overview
Alsama Project is a refugee-led non-profit organization founded in 2020, dedicated to providing accelerated education to displaced teenagers, primarily Syrian and Palestinian, in the Middle East. The organization focuses on Lebanon's refugee camps and has expanded its presence to Syria. Established in Beirut's Shatila refugee camp, Alsama aims to break the cycle of vulnerability for refugee children by eradicating illiteracy and preparing students for university or skilled employment. The organization currently educates around 1,100 refugee teenagers across four education centers, with a holistic curriculum that compresses 12 years of schooling into just six years. Alsama offers various programs, including accelerated education, professional training, and psycho-social support, while also empowering refugee women through social enterprises. Recognized for its innovative approach, Alsama won the inaugural Global Schools Prize in 2024, highlighting its impact in refugee education
