Badael

Overview

Badael, a registered non-profit organization in Turkey and Germany, was established in 2013 in response to the urgent need to strengthen inclusive, representative, grassroots civil society groups (CSGs) in Syria. Badael’s mission is to support local-level peace building, rights-based campaigning, and non-violent activism through capacity building, research, and advocacy. A firm commitment to women’s rights and gender equality is evident throughout our work, reflecting Badael’s core belief that mobilizing and empowering women must be a central component of any effort to build sustainable peace in Syria. In Syria, our multi-faceted activities benefit CSGs active in the fields of peace building and human rights, as well as the communities they serve. More recently, we have expanded our mandate to include working directly on issues facing Syrian refugees in Turkey, such as their access to rights, increasing their level of self-organization, and combating racism and discrimination against them.

Badael (“Alternatives” in Arabic) is a Syrian NGO committed to strengthening civil society groups and NGOs in Syria that are active or want to become active in the promotion of non-violence and in the implementation of activities to reduce the severity of violence, to break its cycle, to respond to the conflict and to prepare for the process of post-conflict peace-building.
