BATIK International
Overview
BATIK International is a French non-profit organization established in 1998 by Isabelle Devaux and Catherine Mechkour-Di Maria, both descendants of immigrants from Laos and Algeria. The organization aims to foster solidarity and cultural exchange between Europe, Asia, and the Mediterranean region. Its name, "BATIK," symbolizes interconnectedness, drawing inspiration from the traditional wax-resist dyeing technique known for its intricate patterns. Operating from offices in Paris, Hanoi, and Algiers, BATIK International collaborates with local partners to implement development projects that promote social and economic inclusion. These initiatives primarily target vulnerable groups such as women, youth, and migrants. The organization's core activities include raising awareness about social and economic rights, providing vocational training, supporting entrepreneurship, and facilitating access to microcredit. Additionally, BATIK International offers capacity-building support to civil society organizations, enabling them to enhance their effectiveness and sustainability.
