Catherine Exists
Overview
Catherine Exists is an independent non-profit community development initiative and cooperative dedicated to supporting and raising awareness of Saint Catherine's protectorate in South Sinai, Egypt. Established in 2009, the organization focuses on empowering the local Bedouin community—a minority group that often faces discrimination—by creating spaces for intercultural dialogue to promote peace and tolerance among communities. Operating from a community center located in Wady Gharba, Catherine Exists provides medical and educational services to the Bedouin community. As of mid-2019, the organization comprised around 200 active volunteers and had delivered sustainable medical services to over 1,000 patients.Catherine Exists aims to implement and demonstrate a model for social inclusion that can be replicated globally. Their focus includes developing and sustaining indigenous communities while preserving their culture, highlighting marginalized groups, advocating for eco-tourism, fostering intercultural dialogue, and promoting the use of art for social change.
