Center of Egyptian Family Development

Overview

The Center of Egyptian Family Development is a non-profit organization based in Egypt, focusing on rural development and agricultural sustainability. Its primary aim is to improve the lives of smallholder farmers, particularly women, through innovative agricultural solutions. The foundation works across Egypt, with a significant focus on the Upper Egypt region, particularly in the area around Luxor.

One of their major projects is the “Fresh Dry” initiative, which involves operating Egypt's first solar-powered dryer for fruits and vegetables. This facility, located in Esna, Luxor, helps reduce post-harvest losses, a significant issue in the region. Through this project, the foundation supports around 300 smallholder farmers, including 90 women, helping them add value to their produce by drying fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, onions, and hibiscus. This not only preserves the food but also helps increase the income of these farmers by providing them with access to new markets for their dried products.
