Children Of Female Prisoners Association (CFPA)
Overview
The Children of Female Prisoners Association (CFPA) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established in Egypt in 1990 by journalist Nawal Mostafa. The organization was founded in response to the plight of children living with their incarcerated mothers in prison, a situation that came to light through Mostafa's investigative journalism. CFPA aims to support female prisoners, particularly those incarcerated due to poverty-related offenses, and their children by providing economic, social, and psychological assistance to facilitate their reintegration into society.
The organization also advocates for legal reforms to replace imprisonment with civil penalties for women convicted of minor offenses, thereby preserving family unity and stability. Additionally, CFPA conducts monthly visits to prisons, provides essential supplies to incarcerated mothers and their children, and runs awareness campaigns to challenge societal stigmas associated with female incarceration.
