Columbia Global Freedom of Expression

Overview

Columbia Global Freedom of Expression is an initiative established in 2014 by Columbia University under the leadership of President Emeritus Lee C. Bollinger. It aims to advance the understanding and protection of freedom of expression and information worldwide by fostering a progressive and integrated jurisprudence in this field. The program brings together international experts, including judges, lawyers, and scholars, to collaborate with Columbia's academic community in promoting global norms that safeguard free speech. A cornerstone of the initiative is its Global Case Law Database, an open-access resource that compiles and analyzes judicial decisions related to freedom of expression from around the world. This database is supported by a network of international experts and is available in multiple languages, including Spanish, French, Russian, Arabic, and Portuguese. It serves as a vital tool for stakeholders seeking to understand legal developments and trends in free speech jurisprudence globally.
