Overview

In 1960, Deutsche Welle became an independent broadcasting corporation according to the Act on the construction of broadcasting premises under federal law. Ever since, the Deutsche Welle Act has continually been adapted to changing circumstances.  Deutsche Welle is Germany’s international broadcaster.

DW conveys a comprehensive image of Germany, report events and developments, incorporate German and other perspectives in a journalistically independent manner. By doing so it promote understanding between cultures and peoples. DW reaches out especially to international decision makers, to people who have or will have influence on opinion making. In authoritarian states it turns to those who engage themselves for democracy, civil liberties and progress.
