Gaza Municipality
Overview
The municipality of Gaza was established in 1893. The first head of the municipal council in Gaza City. Several municipal councils came to Gaza City, starting during the Ottoman Empire in 1893 and passing through the British Mandate period, while 1918-1948, then the Egyptian administration of the Gaza Strip, and after that the Israeli occupation 1967-1994. With the return of the Palestinian Authority in 1994 and for the first time the President Yasser Arafat issued a decision to form a new municipal council to manage municipal affairs. 26/7/1994, which is considered the first municipal council under the Palestinian Authority in modern history, formed to face the deteriorating conditions in infrastructure and services. The municipality succeeded in carrying the trust and in changing the image of the city that was destroyed by the hateful years of occupation.
