General Union of Cultural Centers (GUCC)
Overview
The General Union of Cultural Centers (GUCC) is an independent, non-profit civil organization established in 1997 in Palestine. It serves as a coordinating framework for cultural centers and institutions, aiming to meet their growing needs and enable them to play a leading and effective role in society. GUCC encourages the development of relationships among cultural entities and provides a unique creative forum for intellectuals and artists to work on crystallizing and formulating a Palestinian cultural identity. This identity contributes positively to social and political change in Palestine. The union comprises a network of 67 member institutions and cultural centers spread across the Gaza Strip, along with more than 120 partner institutions. GUCC is committed to increasing cultural, political, and civic awareness within the Palestinian community, developing and enhancing the performance of Palestinian cultural centers, and preserving the fundamentals of Palestinian national culture. It also focuses on building cooperative relationships and exchanging experiences between local and international organizations, networking to form public opinion on common issues, and representing Palestinian cultural centers on local, regional, and international levels.
