Humanitarian Quality Assurance Initiative (HQAI)

Overview

HQAI (Humanitarian Quality Assurance Initiative) is an independent, not‑for‑profit, non‑governmental organization founded in 2015 and based in Switzerland that provides professional third‑party quality assurance services for humanitarian and development organisations. Its core purpose is to assess how well organisations apply the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS), helping them improve accountability, effectiveness, and quality of aid for vulnerable and crisis‑affected people and communities. Through independent audits, benchmarking and verification, HQAI measures performance against recognised standards, identifies strengths and areas for improvement, and publishes transparent reports that build trust among affected populations, donors and other stakeholders. The organisation operates according to principles of impartiality, competence and openness and is accredited under international standards for certification bodies, making its assessments credible and reliable across the sector.
