Institute for University Cooperation (ICU)
Overview
ICU (Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria) is an Italian international non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 1966 and headquartered in Rome. Recognized by the European Commission and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, ICU implements development cooperation and humanitarian assistance projects in low- and middle-income countries while promoting education and awareness on international solidarity. Since its founding, the organization has implemented around 500 development projects across more than 40 countries in Africa, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Asia, and the Pacific. ICU's work focuses on strengthening local capacities and promoting sustainable development through long-term partnerships with governments, universities, civil society organizations, and local communities. Its main areas of intervention include education and vocational training, healthcare, water and sanitation, agriculture and rural development, renewable energy, women's empowerment, social development, and emergency response.
