Overview
The Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS) is a policy research center based at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS). Established in 2013, IRIS is dedicated to producing independent, empirically grounded analysis on the political, socioeconomic, and security challenges facing Iraq and the broader Middle East. The institute emphasizes rigorous research and local expertise, partnering with academic institutions and funding agencies worldwide to inform policy discussions.
IRIS organizes various events, including the annual Sulaimani Forum, which brings together over 700 local and international policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to address pressing issues in Iraq and the region. The institute also runs the Iraq Leadership Fellows program, aimed at cultivating the next generation of Iraqi leaders through training and capacity-building initiatives. Through its research, publications, and events, IRIS provides a neutral platform for open dialogue, fostering collaboration among diverse actors to develop strategic solutions to the complex challenges facing Iraq and the Middle East.
