Journalists for Human Rights
Overview
Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is a Canadian nonprofit organization founded in 2002 and headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. Its mission is to raise awareness of human rights and promote positive social change by empowering journalists, media outlets, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to report on human rights issues objectively, ethically, and effectively. JHR works to strengthen independent media, improve public access to reliable information, promote accountability, and ensure that marginalized communities have their voices heard. Its main activities include capacity building and training for journalists, developing journalism curricula in partnership with post-secondary institutions, providing practical training and mentorship to local media organizations, and strengthening networks among journalists and civil society actors.
