Mission East

Overview

Mission East is a Danish non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1991 by René Hartzner and his son Dr. Kim Hartzner. Headquartered in Hellerup, Denmark, with an office in Brussels, Belgium, Mission East operates in crisis-affected countries across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The organization focuses on providing emergency relief during disasters and implementing long-term development assistance to support vulnerable populations and help local communities lift themselves out of poverty and marginalization. Mission East's core sectors of operation include water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), food security, livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, and disability and inclusion. The organization works directly with beneficiaries and through partnerships with local and international organizations to strengthen the relevance, effectiveness, and sustainability of its programs. Mission East is committed to applying humanitarian standards such as the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), the Red Cross Code of Conduct, and Sphere Project standards in its work.
