Munathara Initiative

Overview

The Munathara Initiative is a registered non-profit organization founded in 2012, with offices in Washington D.C. and Tunis, Tunisia. It focuses on promoting debate, free speech, and civic engagement among youth, women, and marginalized communities in the Arabic-speaking world. The organization aims to create an inclusive public sphere where individuals can express their opinions freely, fostering tolerance and constructive dialogue across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Munathara operates an online debate platform where participants submit short videos sharing their views on current issues. The public votes on these submissions, and top contributors are invited to join live, televised panel debates with experts. Additionally, the initiative conducts training workshops to enhance debate and communication skills, and it runs various public interest media projects, including radio shows and townhall broadcasts. With a reach that includes multiple countries in the MENA region.
