Nation Station
Overview
On August 4th, 2020, a catastrophic explosion erupted in the Port of Beirut, killing over 200, injuring over 7000, and leaving over 300,000 people homeless. The Lebanese youth came together in solidarity to help the community; a job that the incompetent and indifferent government failed to do. An abandoned gas station in the heart of the blast-affected area soon became a hub for volunteers and activists to come together and gradually build a better system, earning it the name: Nation Station.
Nation Station’s guiding principle is “Empowerment over Charity”. After many months of emergency relief, we are now building sustainable solutions to tackle more chronic problems – all amidst a worsening socio-economic situation. As a data-driven organization, Nation Station’s projects evolve and adapt to the needs of the community. By empowering activists, volunteers, and community members – through involvement, employment, skill-building, and education – we maximize impact while limiting charity to only the most vulnerable community members. This is how Nation Station is creating a culture of ownership and solidarity. By the people, for the people.
