Saudi Green Initiative
Overview
The Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) is a national climate and sustainability program launched by Saudi Arabia to address environmental challenges, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance natural ecosystems. It forms a key part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and climate action strategy, focusing on three main pillars: reducing emissions, greening the landscape, and protecting land and sea. Among its headline goals are planting 10 billion trees across the country, rehabilitating millions of hectares of degraded land, increasing the share of renewable energy in the national mix, and designating more than 30% of Saudi Arabia’s land and sea as protected areas. SGI brings together government entities, private companies, civil society, and international partners to implement projects that advance biodiversity conservation, improve air quality, boost renewable energy capacity, and promote sustainable living. Through these efforts, Saudi Arabia aims to lead regional climate action, support global environmental goals, and create a more sustainable future for generations to come.
