Women`s International League for Peace and Freedom

Overview

The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) is a global non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting peace, justice, and equality through a feminist lens. Founded in 1915 during World War I by women activists, including Jane Addams and Emily Greene Balch, it is one of the oldest continuously active peace organizations in the world. WILPF works to address the root causes of war, militarism, and social inequality through advocacy, research, grassroots mobilization, and international engagement, particularly at the United Nations. Its main areas of focus include disarmament, human rights, women, peace and security, and crisis response, emphasizing the importance of women’s leadership in peacebuilding and decision-making. With national sections and groups in many countries, an International Secretariat in Geneva, and consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council, WILPF strives to create a more peaceful and equitable world by challenging systems of militarism, colonialism, racism, and economic inequality.
