Yemeni Women Union

Overview

The Yemeni Women's Union is an independent, voluntary, non-governmental organization. Founded in the 1960s, it was unified in 1990, when the two Yemens were unified, becoming a single union encompassing women of all ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, and political affiliations. The Union has 1,400,000 full and associate members distributed across its various branches and activity centers. Between 300 and 500 women benefit from the services it provides annually.

The Union comprises 23 main branches in various governorates and 165 women's activity centers in different districts. Through its mission and general objectives, the Union strives to empower women and support their capabilities to contribute effectively to sustainable development, eliminate all forms of discrimination against them, and promote their equality in rights based on their experience and competence, enabling them to be key and active partners in economic, social, and cultural development.
