Young Women’s Christian Association of Palestine (YWCA)
Overview
The Young Women’s Christian Association of Palestine (YWCA of Palestine) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Palestinian women, youth, and communities through social, economic, and educational programs. With roots dating back to the 1890s and officially established in the 1920s, the YWCA of Palestine is part of the global YWCA movement, which promotes women’s rights, leadership, and social justice. The organization focuses on economic empowerment by providing vocational training, job opportunities, and small business support for women, while also offering educational programs, scholarships, and skills development initiatives for youth. Additionally, it actively engages in advocacy and human rights efforts, advocating for gender equality, peace, and justice, particularly in the context of the ongoing occupation. Youth engagement is another key pillar, with leadership training and civic participation programs aimed at fostering a new generation of changemakers. As a member of the World YWCA, the YWCA of Palestine collaborates with international partners to amplify Palestinian women’s voices on global platforms. Through these initiatives, it plays a crucial role in strengthening women’s roles in Palestinian society and advancing their rights at both local and international levels.
