Lebanon is bracing for a continuing prolonged crisis of displacement due to the ongoing conflict that has driven people from their homes. Officials have expressed that as many as thousands may not be able to return for some time as violence and destruction in the country has caused families to seek shelter in areas outside the region.

Displacement has reached extreme levels. Over a million displaced individuals have been forced to find temporary shelter. One of the challenges is to support displaced persons which does increase pressures placed on host communities unable to provide adequate support.

To make the situation even worse is the considerable funding gap; while all previous conflicts saw much higher levels of aid support to cover the needs created by hosting displaced populations, the current available funding comes nowhere close to meeting the needs faced by the people of Lebanon.

Though planning efforts are underway by the government, the lack of adequate resources will not allow for sufficient support which does result in concern about how Lebanon will continue to be able to support its vulnerable populations.
