The project, funded by UN Habitat, aims to provide area-based plans and deliver coordinated infrastructure rehabilitation projects in two locations in a way that is responsive to community needs.
It also identifies social and environmental risks while demonstrating that sufficient safeguards are in place to effectively avoid, mitigate, and/or manage those risks. Awarded to and implemented by EQMS Consulting, the project has a value of $147,640.
The main scope of work includes:
- Implementation Support to ensure the application of social and environmental safeguards to the UN-Habitat program “Support to the Restoration of Minimal Functionality of Infrastructure in Urban Areas in Syria”.
- Technical Assistance Towards Project Sheet Implementation: Conduct a technical project management review, including scheduling and process requirements, engineering, and safeguarding components of the procurement process.
- Mitigation Program Support: Provide technical support to UN-Habitat and project teams in the identification and compilation of data for collection to determine the trajectory of project performance within the project footprint and area of influence.
- Monitoring and Evaluation Activities: Conduct monitoring of safeguards in accordance with the indicators and reporting requirements set forth in the Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMP) and detailed management plans.
This project also aims to support the application to ensure that the social and environmental safeguards and capacity Development on other UN-Habitat Projects / Programs meet their expected outcomes. This is done through:
- Implement a train-the-trainer program, met with technical meetings, to guide risk screening and impact assessment of all proposed project activities, including data collection for assessments and consultations.
- Provide risk screening and impact analyses and assessments in compliance with required safeguards and national laws.
- Prepare an environmental and social management framework.
- Prepare a detailed ‘Environmental and Social Management Plans framework that aligns with projects selected for funding.
