The Robert Bosch Stiftung, one of Europe’s largest private foundations, supports projects that connect climate change, peacebuilding, and recovery in vulnerable regions like Iraq and Syria.

The Robert Bosch Stiftung (Robert Bosch Foundation) is one of Europe’s largest private foundations linked to a company. It channels company dividends into health, education, and international cooperation, aiming to build fairer, more sustainable societies.

The foundation works by providing grants to NGOs, universities, and research centers, while also running its own programs and acting as a neutral convener in sensitive policy areas. It focuses on challenges like inequality, conflict, and climate change.

In the MENA region, highly vulnerable to climate change, RBF launched a project in Iraq to support local dialogue on climate security risks. Iraq, ranked the fifth most vulnerable country worldwide, faces weak governance and growing resource pressures that worsen conflict dynamics. The project, implemented with the Berghof Foundation and Peace Paradigms Organisation, creates local dialogue platforms linking climate impacts to peacebuilding efforts.

Syria is another focus, where climate change has worsened conflict and continues to affect recovery. Partnering with Syrbanism, a Syrian-led organization founded in Berlin, the initiative integrates climate awareness into early recovery and reconstruction, stressing social cohesion and environmental justice.

By linking climate change to peace and recovery, the Robert Bosch Stiftung shows how addressing environmental risks can also strengthen stability and resilience in fragile regions.
