Suez Cement Group of Companies, through it subsidiary Helwan Cement Company, signed a 12-month agreement with CARE Egypt at the beginning of November 2014 in support of the Improving Learning Environment through Community Engagement project implemented in El Minya. CARE Egypt will implement the project together with local partners for the benefit of 3,000 primary school students and 75 teachers.

The project works on three different levels. Firstly, it aims at raising awareness and sensitize schools' staff and students about the importance of educational infrastructure and resources. Secondly, the project will include a component focusing on the strengthening of institutional capacities of schools' administration and Governorate's Education Departments as well as building the capacity of teachers through technical support. Thirdly, the project will also adopt a social accountability model using community score cards in order to make schools' performance accountable to community needs and requirements.

The project's anticipated outcomes are thus the preservation of schools' facilities, the delivery of quality of education through active teaching/learning techniques, and the increase of accountability and citizen engagement within the educational process.
