Ankara, June 30, 2025 — The Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) has officially launched the “Financial Support Program for Human Rights Defenders at Risk,” reinforcing its commitment to solidarity with individuals who face pressure and hardship due to their efforts to protect and promote human rights.

For those who don’t know, The Human Rights Foundation of Turkey works to protect human dignity and support people who have suffered from torture or other violations. It offers medical, legal, and psychological help to survivors while also raising awareness and documenting abuses. At the same time, it pushes for justice, trains professionals, and builds networks of solidarity, all with the goal of preventing future violations and strengthening democratic values in society.

The initiative forms part of TİHV’s broader strategy to strengthen Turkey’s human rights movement through grassroots engagement. At a time of deepening political, social, and economic challenges both in Turkey and globally, the Foundation aims to contribute to rebuilding public life around human rights values and principles.

The Financial Support Program for Human Rights Defenders at Risk project, funded by EU, builds on a previous 42-month initiative implemented between 2021 and 2024, which focused on post-pandemic support for human rights defenders. The current project continues to prioritize solidarity, protection, and empowerment for those at risk.

TİHV views the financial support program not merely as aid, but as a concrete act of solidarity—an expression of shared hope and collective resilience. While acknowledging the program’s limitations in quantity and duration, and in terms of the number of recipients, the Foundation emphasizes the urgent need to expand and diversify support mechanisms amid worsening economic conditions and increasing inequality.
