The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has signed a $20 million agreement with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to expand emergency food aid in Sudan, where ongoing conflict has worsened hunger and displacement. The UAE Aid Agency will give the grant to WFP under the agreement so that WFP can distribute food aid to people who need it most because of the ongoing conflict.
The cooperation was formalized in a signing ceremony attended by senior officials from both sides. The representatives from UAE and WFP will use the funding to help people who experience immediate food security problems especially those who have been displaced and those who live in areas where they cannot obtain essential items because of ongoing violence.
UAE officials emphasized the country's continued humanitarian leadership and the significance of providing for basic food needs both inside Sudan and in neighboring host nations like Ethiopia, South Sudan, Uganda, and Chad, where a large number of displaced people have sought safety.
They also urged ongoing international collaboration to provide life-saving assistance in places where access is still challenging. According to UAE officials, the contribution highlights the need for safe and unhindered access for the delivery of humanitarian aid while demonstrating a strong commitment to reducing suffering brought on by the conflict and meeting urgent food needs in famine-affected and high-risk areas
