The FIVB Volleyball Foundation and Generations For Peace (GFP) announced a new partnership that will lead to the establishment of a major Volleyball Programme in Zarqa, Jordan. This project is designed to support the young refugee population, who are the most affected by the aftermath of displacement. It is worth noting that the area of Zarqa is one of the locations where children affected by the refugee crisis in Jordan can be found. In such places, they go through various hardships, including labor, violence, and the lack of safe areas to play with other children. Such an initiative embraces the principle of sport as a powerful means of support.
The overall purpose of the program is primarily centered around improving the psychological well-being of youths. A total of 100 young people from the Syrian refugee community will be the main focus of the program. Among them are 50 girls and 50 boys, all within the age of 10 to 24 years. In the future, they will be actively involved in volleyball sessions that take into account the aspects of trauma and are open to everyone.
The sessions are planned to be held in two different sessions at community centers which will be selected with the help of local partners. Before starting the sessions, youth leaders will undergo intensive training on "Sport for Protection" in order to understand fully what is involved in the delivery of the care provision. Such sessions will equip them with more capacity and authority as well as skills in safeguarding. Moreover, the program will not only be limited to youth participation but will also extend to parents and other community members through sessions that will inform them and so, prepare them to offer support.
The Foundation has funded and fully committed to the different financial needs that come with the implementation of the program such as training, equipment and the mentorship. On the other hand, GFP is a knowledgeable and experienced partner who can provide helpful instructional resources and local capacity-building.
