A $91 million appeal has been initiated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and 48 partners to assist migrants travelling to and from important African routes. The primary goals for this plan is to provide Immediate assistance and support for migrants and the communities that host them.
Thousands of people from nations like Ethiopia and Somalia risk their lives each year to travel to the Gulf or Southern Africa in search of employment and safety. Many experience detention, abuse, violence, and hunger. Over 900 migrants lost their lives or disappeared on one of these routes in 2025 alone.
The new plan will secure better return initiatives, life-saving assistance, and support for migrant communities. In order to give migrants safer options and better futures, it also seeks to enhance partnerships and employment opportunities.
Authorities caution that the amount of money available now is far less than what is required. Without additional assistance, shelters might close which could put migrants in danger and deprive them of critical medical care.
