Oman is making an investment in creating clean energy and new economic opportunities through a $1.6 billion solar manufacturing initiative. With support from the International Financing Corporation (IFC) and other partners, it will create the largest polysilicon manufacturing facility in the Middle East within Sohar, which produces one of the main components for manufacturing solar panels.

The facility will generate nearly 3,000 jobs for Omanis and will support the creation of additional investment in the country.

This initiative is an important part of Oman's efforts to diversify its economy away from oil production while growing other sectors. Through strengthening solar manufacturing, Oman hopes to become a significant contributor to the global clean energy supply chain while also reducing millions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

As the demand for renewable energy continues to rise across the globe, it will be increasingly important to undertake projects like this in order to achieve energy stability.
