Plan International is implementing a project aimed at raising gender and climate resilience awareness, strengthening youth understanding and engagement in developing ideas for climate-related risks, and promoting gender transformative capacity for girls and women to take on leadership roles in climate justice action.

Plan International believes that all children and young people should enjoy full and equal access to their rights, and this should not be hindered by the threat of climate change. Plan International asserts that access to information is crucial in building knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors needed for adaptive capacity, engaging in and developing climate policies, supporting the green economy and encouraging individual environmental responsibility. They also recognize the importance of gender transformational capacity in empowering females to take on leadership positions in climate justice action.

Having said that, Plan International is implementing a project which aims to produce an interactive, games-based curriculum called “Y-Adapt” within Egyptian schools and educational strategies. This curriculum focuses on creating creative approaches that incorporates tools and approaches that integrate multiple concepts such as climate change, extreme weather, hazards and vulnerabilities relevant to participants’ communities. This should, in turn, develop a sense of awareness which promotes risk management and strengthen the understanding and engagement of youth in developing ideas to risk climate-related risks.

The project is expected to:

  • Implement a methodology that is friendly for their target group from the people with disabilities (PWD- visual, hearing, and speech impairment) from children, adolescent, and young people;
  • Set reviews and enhancements in the content from a gender transformative lens, highlighting the linkage between gender and climate change (gender in climate change), providing a clear set of youth led climate initiatives that promote adaptation.
  • Deliver high-quality practical capacity-building programs on climate change, with a focus on PWD friendly content and gender transformative approach.
  • Deliver PWD friendly trainings, gender mainstreaming, gender analysis, and gender-responsive programming.

Some of the key deliverables of the project include:

  1. Training package: includes manual, training materials, training presentation, contextualized videos, and agendas.
  2. Training report: After successfully conducting the trainings, it is required to submit a training report that includes an analysis of the pre and post-tests, feedback from the participants, and recommendations.
  3. A report of Monitoring and Evaluation procedures and their analysis of the activities and outcomes of the curriculum.
